Thailand Patent Application Guide
Thailand is a member of multiple international intellectual property treaties and agreements and has joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Thailand is a member of the Paris Convention and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). Therefore, foreign enterprises and individuals can apply for patents in Thailand through the Paris Convention route or the PCT route.
I: Thailand Patent Classification: Invention Patent, Utility Model Patent, Design Patent.

III: Materials Required for Thailand Invention Patent & Utility Model Patent:
- Specification, claims, abstract of the specification, drawings of the specification, and abstract drawings.
- Patent application power of attorney signed or stamped by the applicant (no notarization or legalization required).
- Information such as applicant's name, applicant's address, inventor's name, inventor's address, etc.
Note: The language of application materials is English or Thai.
IV: Materials Required for Design Patent:
- Six orthographic views and a perspective view must be provided.
- Brief description of the design, including product name, purpose, main design features, etc.
- Patent application power of attorney signed or stamped by the applicant (no notarization or legalization required).
- Information such as applicant's name, applicant's address, inventor's name, inventor's address, etc.
Note: The language of application materials is English or Thai.
V: Application Process and Time:
Invention Patent:
- Process: Application → Preliminary Examination → Publication → Opposition → Substantive Examination → Grant and Certificate Issuance.

Utility Model Patent:
- Process: Application → Preliminary Examination → Publication → Opposition → Substantive Examination → Grant and Certificate Issuance.

- Process: Application → Preliminary Examination → Publication → Opposition → Substantive Examination → Grant and Certificate Issuance.

Subjects Not Eligible for Patent Application:
According to Section 9 of the Thai Patent Act, the following subjects are not eligible for patent rights:
- Naturally occurring microorganisms and their components.
- Animals, plants, and extracts of animals or plants.
- Scientific and mathematical rules.
- Computer programs.
- Methods for diagnosis, treatment, or therapy of human or animal diseases.
- Inventions contrary to public order, morality, public health, or welfare.
