The patent authority in the UAE is the United Arab Emirates Patent Office, with Arabic as the official language. The United Arab Emirates comprises seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. The current patent system is primarily governed and protected by the Regulations on Patents, Industrial Drawings, and Designs.

III. Required Documents for Industrial Design Application in the UAE
- Applicant: Name, address, nationality
- Inventor: Name, address, nationality
- Design Name
- Product Design Drawings: Perspective view (exploded view, if applicable) and six orthographic views (front, rear, left, right, top, and bottom). The scale must be consistent across all views.
- Priority Information (if applicable): Priority number, filing date, and country/region. A priority document must be provided (DAS codes are not accepted).
- Power of Attorney (requires notarization and authentication)
IV. Industrial Design Application Process and Timeline in the UAE
Process:
- Application: Submit application documents to the UAE Patent Office.
- Acceptance: The office issues an acceptance notification.
- Examination: The office reviews the application.
- Grant and Publication: If the industrial design application meets legal requirements, the office grants the design right and publishes the grant.
Timeline:
- Acceptance Notification Issuance: Approximately 2–3 weeks
- Registration Time: 12 months
- Validity Period: 10 years
