Egypt Trademark Registration
Egypt, officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a country in northeastern Africa and an important member of the Middle East region. Cross-border e-commerce in Egypt is still in its early stages but holds significant potential and market opportunities.
Amazon officially entered the Egyptian market in 2019, becoming one of the most popular cross-border e-commerce platforms in Egypt.
Egypt adopts the 'first-to-file' principle for trademark registration, meaning that the first applicant to file enjoys exclusive rights to the trademark.
Egypt is a member of several intellectual property organizations and treaties, including the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Madrid Agreement, the Madrid Protocol, and the Nice Agreement.

Trademark Registration Process
- Filing: Submit the required documents and obtain an acknowledgment receipt.
- Examination: The examination includes checks for compliance with legal provisions, prohibitive clauses, distinctiveness, and infringement. If the application fails the examination, a refusal notice will be issued, and the applicant must respond within the specified timeframe.
- Publication: The trademark is published for a 60-day opposition period, during which any party may file an opposition. If the applicant does not respond to an opposition, the trademark application will be deemed abandoned.
- Substantive Examination: After the opposition period, the Trademark Office conducts a substantive examination to determine whether the trademark meets registration requirements and whether it conflicts with existing registered or pending trademarks. If the application does not meet the requirements, a refusal notice will be issued, and the applicant may submit a response or amend the application within 30 days. This stage typically takes around 12 months.
- Registration Approval: Upon successful examination, the Trademark Office issues a registration certificate. This stage generally takes 1–2 months.
Validity Period and Renewal
A trademark is valid for 10 years from the filing date and can be renewed upon expiry, with each renewal extending the validity by 10 years.
