Myanmar Trademark Registration

Myanmar is a signatory to international intellectual property treaties such as the WIPO Convention but has not yet joined the Madrid Agreement or the Madrid Protocol. Therefore, trademark registration in Myanmar can only be processed through direct national registration.

Myanmar follows the 'first-to-file' principle for trademark registration.

Required Documents for Trademark Registration

  1. Applicant information: name, address, nationality, etc.
  2. Proof of identity:
  3. Trademark specimen (for color trademarks: JPG file and description of colors)
  4. Designated class(es) and list of goods/services
  5. Description of the trademark
  6. Priority document (if applicable, with English translation)
  7. Power of Attorney (requires notarization)

Trademark Registration Process

  1. Application submission
  2. Formal examination
  3. Substantive examination
  4. Publication: 2 months
  5. Registration and certificate issuance

Validity Period and Renewal
A trademark is valid for 10 years from the filing date. Renewal can be filed within 6 months before expiration, with a 6-month grace period. Each renewal extends the validity by 10 years.
