The World Intellectual Property Organization announced on October 5, 2026 that Current Account at WIPO is now WIPO Wallet, repositioning its long-standing payment account as a single payment method covering all WIPO services, from PCT international patent applications to Madrid trademark and Hague design filings.
WIPO Wallet lets users pay online with immediate payment confirmation, monitor their balance and transactions, and set customized alerts. Opening a wallet requires an initial deposit of CHF 200 and a minimum of four transactions per year, keeping the entry threshold low for individual inventors and small businesses while supporting high-volume filers.
Existing Current Account holders are unaffected by the change: the account number, credentials and access remain the same, balances are carried over automatically, and no setup is required. WIPO describes the service, trusted worldwide since 1986, as a community that users can join by opening a WIPO Wallet today.
The rebrand consolidates WIPO's payment channels under a clearer wallet concept and complements WIPO Pay, the organization's online payment option for individual transactions. For IP practitioners managing deposits across multiple WIPO procedures, the single-wallet approach is intended to simplify cash management and reduce failed-payment risks on time-sensitive international filings.
