WIPO announced on October 6, 2026 that it will join the Tamil Nadu Technology Hub (iTNT) in organizing a free online training on the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and related WIPO initiatives on October 22 and 23, 2026. The sessions run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Geneva time, in English, with free registration.
The training is designed for startups in deep tech and emerging sectors, entrepreneurs, researchers and other stakeholders across Tamil Nadu's IP and innovation ecosystem, whether they are preparing a first international filing or developing a global patent strategy. It explores how the PCT System can help protect an invention internationally and provides an overview of WIPO tools, support and initiatives available to innovators, including practical guidance on taking ideas to market through an IP commercialization strategy.
Key speakers include Ms. Vanitha Venugopal, Chief Executive Officer of iTNT, Chennai; Ms. Christine Bonvallet, Director of the PCT International Cooperation Division at WIPO; Ms. Anjali Aeri, Counsellor in the same division; and Mr. Roberto Perez-Gomes, Program Officer in the division's Office Services Section.
Participants will learn how a single international patent application can seek protection in more than 150 countries and how the PCT timeline provides more time to assess commercial potential, secure funding and plan next steps before committing to costs in individual countries. The program also features a step-by-step live ePCT filing demonstration, PATENTSCOPE search training across millions of patent documents, and an introduction to how WIPO GREEN connects providers of sustainable technologies with partners and investors.
